As a construction delivery partner for United Utilities you’ll enjoy working on water & wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure schemes, with a focus on phosphorus removal schemes and UU’s better rivers scheme.
As part of your job, you will create the commissioning strategy from the ground up and make sure that the project’s process outputs are produced safely, in accordance with the design, client requirements, regulatory outputs, and all environmental restrictions.

Key Responsibilities
- Commissioning services including documentation, liaising with suppliers and facilitating contractor commissioning and assist the project team with project completions.
- Work within the team of mechanical, EICA and commissioning engineers to develop best practice, a strong health & safety environment and value for money.
- Wastewater projects incorporating new build and refurbishment on apparatus such as inlet works, course screens with screen handling units, grit separation & classifiers, fine screens, chemical dosing, dewatering & secondary treatment plant etc.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data to analyse problems and find solutions.
- Provide process and control expertise for delivery teams within UU framework.
What we’d like from you
- Experience of installation & wastewater commissioning in the utility sector.
- Experience with planning the commissioning process cradle to grave.
- Working to safe systems of work including producing and reviewing third party Risk Assessments & Method Statements.
- Ability to demonstrate evidence of design improvements of process related equipment and plant.
- Full UK driving licence.

Apprenticeships at JN Bentley are hands-on from day one; with a dedicated mentor to support your development throughout the course, you’ll have the opportunity to work out on site and develop key skills in civil engineering and construction operations.
What you’ll do
- Getting involved in hands on practical work as well as supervisory activities to build our skills and knowledge.
- You will help integrate the design, construction and commissioning of plant and equipment mainly within the Water sector by bringing your mechanical, electrical and/or process skills to practical benefit.
- You will help play a vital in planning and programming of the MEP aspects of the projects we deliver; working with design and operational teams to support the design, planning, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of projects.
During the construction phase of projects you will work closely with our site managers to deliver projects. Duties include
- Quality – overseeing installation subcontractors, ensuring the installation is constructed to the approved designs & engineering standards. Ensuring the final product meets our & client’s requirements – testing, commissioning, fault finding & producing completion documentation.
- Safety – reviewing Risk Assessments & Method Statements, ensuring works are carried out in line with these. Overseeing electrical safety on site & ensuring procedures are being implemented correctly.
- Commercial – helping to ensure projects are deliver to time and budget.
- Contractual – understanding and working to client & suppliers contract conditions.
- Documentation – producing Commissioning Documentation, in the form of, Commissioning Plan, Inspection & Test Plan, Factory Acceptance & Site Acceptance, Training material and completions documentation.

Candidate Specification
- 5 GCSE grades A-C (9-4), must include English and Maths.
