With a versatile, stable pipeline of works on Northumbrian Waters AMP 7 framework, JN Bentley provide the opportunity to experience working on Treatment Plants, Flood defences, along with technical design and build projects. Our client supplies water and sewerage services to just under 4.4 million people, which means our cutting-edge schemes ranging in value from £2-40m make a direct impact to the local community.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure work carried out meets Northumbrian Water standards and statutory legal requirements via a range of activities including site inspections, reviewing method statements and risk assessments and delivering toolbox talks
- Ensure site personnel have relevant training and plant equipment/ machinery are in good working order with in-date certificates
- Oversee temporary works ensuring work is installed as per design
- Order and manage hired internal and external equipment on a daily basis to optimise performance and reduce costs
What we’d like from you
- SMSTS/SSSTS
- Health & Safety focussed and holding a First Aid at Work qualification
- HSG47 trained in Service Avoidance techniques and SEATS certified is desirable
- Comfortable using IT software
- Working as a trusted and visible leader, you’ll be required to encourage, support and mentor a range of different operatives on site to enhance team output

Apprenticeships at JN Bentley are hands-on from day one; with a dedicated mentor to support your development throughout the course, you’ll have the opportunity to work out on site and develop key skills in civil engineering and construction operations.
What you’ll do
- Getting involved in hands on practical work as well as supervisory activities to build our skills and knowledge.
- You will help integrate the design, construction and commissioning of plant and equipment mainly within the Water sector by bringing your mechanical, electrical and/or process skills to practical benefit.
- You will help play a vital in planning and programming of the MEP aspects of the projects we deliver; working with design and operational teams to support the design, planning, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of projects.
During the construction phase of projects you will work closely with our site managers to deliver projects. Duties include
- Quality – overseeing installation subcontractors, ensuring the installation is constructed to the approved designs & engineering standards. Ensuring the final product meets our & client’s requirements – testing, commissioning, fault finding & producing completion documentation.
- Safety – reviewing Risk Assessments & Method Statements, ensuring works are carried out in line with these. Overseeing electrical safety on site & ensuring procedures are being implemented correctly.
- Commercial – helping to ensure projects are deliver to time and budget.
- Contractual – understanding and working to client & suppliers contract conditions.
- Documentation – producing Commissioning Documentation, in the form of, Commissioning Plan, Inspection & Test Plan, Factory Acceptance & Site Acceptance, Training material and completions documentation.

Candidate Specification
- 5 GCSE grades A-C (9-4), must include English and Maths.
- A valid driving license is essential.
