Are you a Quantity Surveyor looking for your next opportunity?
If so, my client is seeking to recruit an experienced individual to help deliver a range of water projects to assist with new framework bids and maintain existing agreements which will include all commercial requirements such as annual rate uplift calculations and attendance at framework review meetings.
About the Role
- As a managing quantity surveyor you are expected to provide commercial support to the delivery teams. This will include commercial management at a framework level including a wide variety of different and complex contract types. The role would need to manage tight deadlines to meet both internal and external reporting periods.
- Review and negotiate awarded contracts to ensure a commercially beneficial position to the business.
- Responsible for the accurate and on time compilation of reporting to meet strict monthly deadlines. These reports feed into a wider batch of reporting completed across the business and you will be expected to provide support and feedback to both the delivery teams and management where required.
- Responsible for invoicing your own portfolio of projects in line with both on-site progress and contractual requirements, whilst monitoring the overall cost position and ensuring it is maintained at a positive level.
- Ensuring that the change control process is implemented correctly with the Delivery Team and that quotations are turned around within 7 days.
- Ensuring that project final accounts are agreed and signed off as swiftly by liaising with key stakeholders.
- Responsible for monitoring of project spend along with the delivery team, reviewing budgets to ensure the business and its customers are receiving value for money. Where possible identifying areas for savings and alternative procurement options that may bring about savings in cost or programme.
- Responsible for the swift set up of contracts to ensure stakeholders have access to key information as soon as possible.
- Support the rest of the commercial team with advice and guidance, and provide training and coaching as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualified or equivalent.
- Experience and understanding of the NEC suite of contracts.
- Mechanical and/or electrical background is desirable.
- Confident in reading and understanding project scope documents & drawings (P&IDs / schedules / BCDs).
- Competency of MS Excel to advanced level.
- Experience in EQUE2 (desirable).
- Estimating experience.
- Water industry experience.
- Experience working for a subcontractor (desirable).
- Management experience.
- Experience of completing framework bids.
- Experience of managing commercial elements of frameworks.

The projects are covering all aspects of Wastewater and Water networks, and treatment facilities through the project lifestyle from feasibility design through to detailed design and construction. These roles offer hybrid working with the opportunity to work out of one of their key offices based in Halifax, Glasgow, Warrington, Derby and Birmingham.
About the role:
- Implement the project requirements to fully meet the clients specification in accordance with relevant standards
- Undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within ability and competence
- Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
- Carry out site visits and surveys and inspections
- Prepare and check feasibility studies, inspection, assessment and technical reports and other written documents in an appropriate format ensuring compliance with our clients procedures
- Comply with the requirements of our clients Integrated Management System including Health & Safety, Environmental and all other appropriate regulations
- Prepare/check design approach, calculations, drawings and documents
- Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team environment
About you:
- Degree qualified, and Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/ IEng through ICE, or relevant equivalent professional qualification) or approaching achieving relevant professional qualification having completed the necessary training requirements.
- Demonstrable experience in Water / Wastewater Engineering
- Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite and relevant engineering software packages
- Good written and oral communication and organisational skills and to produce reports in clear concise English
- Desire to develop existing skills and acquire new technical competences to enhance personal and team capability
- Proven ability to work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines
- Client focused approach to service delivery
- Proven enthusiasm to embrace and participate in career development initiatives
- Full Driving Licence
