Principal Civil Engineer (16)

Our clients’ thriving, multidisciplinary Water Team in the South East are looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join their growing team within their Basingstoke office
  • Location: South East | Basingstoke
  • Salary: £50,000-£60,000

Our clients’ Water Team is involved in high profile, industry leading infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas, and they are working on a variety of significant projects directly for water companies, contractors and government entities including potable water and sewage networks, and treatment works of all scales, and at all stages of the design and construction process from feasibility, through design to operation, maintenance and asset management.

They are interested in speaking with applicants who have experience of outline and/or detailed design of wastewater/water treatment schemes.

Key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Working closely with teams of engineers, hydraulic modellers, environmental scientists and technical specialists to deliver a wide range of projects in the UK and overseas to a high level of quality.
  • Working proactively and collaboratively to solve engineering problems to deliver benefits to the communities that we serve.
  • Being involved in all design stages including feasibility studies, outline designs, detailed designs, and preparing reports and technical specifications.
  • Ensuring compliance of design with all applicable standards and regulations and provide technical expertise for interdisciplinary analytical studies.
  • Being responsible for the delivery of complex tasks and projects and being able to manage the budget and programme for these tasks and projects.
  • Leading the technical delivery on a number of projects and being responsible for reviewing work produced by others to ensure timely and accurate results.
  • Liaising with clients to develop scope, price proposals and communicate project progress.
  • Undertaking line manager responsibilities for a number of junior staff, providing guidance and management to them as well as completing performance evaluations for those assigned.
  • Supporting the development of junior members of the team, managing their input into projects and mentoring them (technical work and ICE).

You will be joining a dynamic local team of high performing Civil Engineers ranging in experience from Apprentice to Director level, within a larger national Water Engineering Team. You will have the opportunity to mentor and direct junior members of the team through technical leadership, line management and supporting them within development training agreements. Qualifications

Here’s what we will need from you;

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, or demonstratable equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience within the water sector at Senior or Principal level, ideally within the UK or with a good appreciation of UK norms and standards.
  • Chartered or Incorporated with a relevant institution e.g. ICE, CIWEM or working towards it.
  • Experience of undertaking engineering assessments, options appraisals, engineering calculations and / or economic appraisals.
  • Experience of outline and / or detailed design, preferably of wastewater / water treatment schemes

  • Job Role: Civil Design Engineer – Water Projects
  • Salary: £35,000 – £55,000 (depending on level of experience)

The projects are covering all aspects of Wastewater and Water networks, and treatment facilities through the project lifestyle from feasibility design through to detailed design and construction. These roles offer hybrid working with the opportunity to work out of one of their key offices based in Halifax, Glasgow, Warrington, Derby and Birmingham.

About the role:

  • Implement the project requirements to fully meet the clients specification in accordance with relevant standards
  • Undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within ability and competence
  • Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staff
  • Carry out site visits and surveys and inspections
  • Prepare and check feasibility studies, inspection, assessment and technical reports and other written documents in an appropriate format ensuring compliance with our clients procedures
  • Comply with the requirements of our clients Integrated Management System including Health & Safety, Environmental and all other appropriate regulations
  • Prepare/check design approach, calculations, drawings and documents
  • Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team environment

About you:

  • Degree qualified, and Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (CEng/ IEng through ICE, or relevant equivalent professional qualification) or approaching achieving relevant professional qualification having completed the necessary training requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience in Water / Wastewater Engineering
  • Computer literate and conversant with MS Office suite and relevant engineering software packages
  • Good written and oral communication and organisational skills and to produce reports in clear concise English
  • Desire to develop existing skills and acquire new technical competences to enhance personal and team capability
  • Proven ability to work within a team environment with a dedicated approach to meet project deadlines
  • Client focused approach to service delivery
  • Proven enthusiasm to embrace and participate in career development initiatives
  • Full Driving Licence
