We are currently looking for an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer who will provide engineering technical direction to the discipline engineers within in water recycling non-infrastructure or infrastructure projects. Collaborating with key stakeholders and assisting the multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure the project solution is providing best value for business through being fit for purpose and completed on time, to budget, and to the correct quality.
What will you be doing as our new Lead Electrical Engineer:
You will provide design support for a number of schemes and ensure all designs are fit for purpose and meet the current standards and legislation. You will be responsible for the checking and reviewing of electrical design deliverables produced by other electrical engineers in the @one Alliance and supply chain to ensure the processes and procedures are followed.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Principal Engineer, Portfolio Design Managers and Project Design Managers to acquire upcoming project milestones and design review dates.
- Ensure designs comply with all statutory Electrical standards and regulations and ensure compliance with all Construction Design Management (CDM), Electricity at Works, BS7671, WIMES, DSEAR and other appropriate legislation for all work undertaken.
- Check specifications, schedules, datasheets, drawings and 3D models to ensure quality, safety, and technical standards are adhered to.
- Review construction site and supply chain design queries and change requests to ensure quick but accurate responses and/or the design remains suitable.
Ensure design comply in hazardous areas to DSEAR compliance. - Assist in responding to design queries during assembly of permanent works on site and have an awareness of cost, Health & Safety and structural integrity of any design change request raised by the Contractor.
- Health & Safety – develop designer alerts where lessons are to be learnt and present lessons learnt to engineers and the wider alliance team.
- Maintain portfolio awareness in technical areas and disseminate to all electrical engineers.
- Lead, coach and develop junior and less experienced engineers.
- Undertake site visits when appropriate.
A little bit about your skills, experience, and behaviours….
To be considered for this exciting opportunity within the @One Alliance, you’ll hold a degree in engineering or have a equivalents degree or an equivalent qualification. Ideally, we are looking for individuals who are charted or workings towards a chartered status. Along with experience of water- sector assets and capital projects. You will need Knowledge of all relevant regulations, standards and codes of practice.

Apprenticeships at JN Bentley are hands-on from day one; with a dedicated mentor to support your development throughout the course, you’ll have the opportunity to work out on site and develop key skills in civil engineering and construction operations.
What you’ll do
- Getting involved in hands on practical work as well as supervisory activities to build our skills and knowledge.
- You will help integrate the design, construction and commissioning of plant and equipment mainly within the Water sector by bringing your mechanical, electrical and/or process skills to practical benefit.
- You will help play a vital in planning and programming of the MEP aspects of the projects we deliver; working with design and operational teams to support the design, planning, installation, testing, commissioning and handover of projects.
During the construction phase of projects you will work closely with our site managers to deliver projects. Duties include
- Quality – overseeing installation subcontractors, ensuring the installation is constructed to the approved designs & engineering standards. Ensuring the final product meets our & client’s requirements – testing, commissioning, fault finding & producing completion documentation.
- Safety – reviewing Risk Assessments & Method Statements, ensuring works are carried out in line with these. Overseeing electrical safety on site & ensuring procedures are being implemented correctly.
- Commercial – helping to ensure projects are deliver to time and budget.
- Contractual – understanding and working to client & suppliers contract conditions.
- Documentation – producing Commissioning Documentation, in the form of, Commissioning Plan, Inspection & Test Plan, Factory Acceptance & Site Acceptance, Training material and completions documentation.

Candidate Specification
- 5 GCSE grades A-C (9-4), must include English and Maths.
- A valid driving license is essential.
